Commencement Address: Jordan D. Schnitzer, 2018

Jordan D. Schnitzer is President of Harsch Investment Properties, founded by his father, Harold Schnitzer. Harsch has grown to include over 25 million square feet of office, industrial, retail and multifamily properties. With a staff of over 280, Jordan has built Harsch into one of the largest privately held real estate property and management companies in the Western United States.

Jordan’s first involvement in civic activities began with board memberships at the Japanese Garden Society of Oregon, the University of Oregon Art Museum, and the Portland Art Museum. Since that time, he has served on over 30 nonprofit boards and organizations. Following his family’s commitment to art and culture, Jordan has created one of the largest contemporary print collections of post-World War II American artists, which he shares with the public. He and his family’s foundation have funded and organized over 100 free exhibitions from his collection traveling to more than 80 museums. In addition, he also serves as President of the Harold and Arlene Schnitzer CARE Foundation, funded by his mother Arlene Schnitzer and his late father Harold Schnitzer, which has made grants in the excess of $125 million dollars in the last 20 years. He is an avid philanthropist and a strong advocate for arts education as exemplified in the Jordan Schnitzer Family Art Adventures program at OCAC – his namesake.

Jordan has received numerous honors and awards including: Portland State University President’s Award for Outstanding Philanthropy, State of Oregon Governor Arts Award, the University of Oregon Presidential Medal, and Honorary Doctorates at Washington State University and at OCAC.
