From artists Scott Dougherty and Dalena Truong:
The interaction between humans and architecture is something that is thought of rarely. We are not only surrounded by it, but completely encapsulated by it a majority of the time. Throughout our lives, we experience our most social memories in a space, and also our loneliest. For our show, our intention is to capture a wide range of these experiences and emotions from the interior and encapsulate them even further into the form of two dimensional work. The act of deskilling or unlearning in painting allows an immediacy of emotion and allows us to depict these spaces in a raw or vulnerable way. While the show ranges from complete abstraction to representation, there is a common bond shared between them all; the moment between recognition and raw emotion. With the use of both fabric and construction materials, there is a direct link to not only a physical space, but the human body. The body shapes and is shaped by the physical space it inhabits. With the lack of an actual figure, these spaces are allowed to clearly exist on their own and open themselves up to the viewer.
