Pearl Fryar is a sculptor who uses live plant material to create original, elegantly abstract forms of topiary. He is self-taught and as such has taken risks and developed techniques outside the normal bounds of horticulture. He is not afraid to try new things and has been said to “tame trees” by his unique techniques. Born in rural North Carolina, the son of a sharecropper, Fryar has overcome substantial obstacles through a position of selfless giving.
Pearl is featured in the August/September 2012 issue of American Craft magazine. Read Peace, Love, and Topiary.
This event is co-sponsored by Pacific Northwest College of Art GFA.
