MFA of Industrial Design Faculty

Collaborative Intelligence.

We value Industrial Design as a way of thinking. Through inquiry and collaboration, we engage in deep-dialogue with students to realize ambitious projects. The process of research and focused experimentation provides each student with the creative and intellectual foundation for discovery.

The MFA/ID faculty represents a globally-trained and agile group of creative thinkers, designers, artists and makers. We maintain independent studios and professional practices where new ideas are created in service to clients and personal investigation.

Austin Swick
Assistant Professor

MFA in 3D Design, Cranbrook Academy of Art; BFA in Industrial Design, University of Kansas. Trained in the fields of both craft and design, AUSTIN's work has always revolved around the language of objects, the richness of materials and being enveloped in the process of making. Early on, his practice as a craftsperson was workshop-based and focused primarily on hand-building. These days, having interjected aspects of CNC machining, he finds using a more hybridized method to be most salient. In this, the objects are involved in concert equally with digital fabrication and traditional craft to create both form and meaning.
